Truckee River Winery is having a full moon snowshoe on the property. Winemaker Russ Jones will be the guide on the tour.

Homemade desserts, hot mulled wine and homemade apple cider will await the treksters on their return.

Parenting expert Tyler Durman will speak at South Tahoe Middle School on Feb. 8 from 7-8:15pm.

The talk is entitled “Bite-Sized Wisdom for Parent of Teenagers.”

A fundraiser for the Hudson family will be Jan. 31 fro 5-8pm in the multipurpose room at South Tahoe Middle School.

Scott Hudson was a teacher at the school who died earlier this month.

Dinner will from 5-7pm, with silent auction from 7-8pm.

Thin Air Distance Festival will hold their four-day marathon in South Shore for the second year; dates are Aug. 11-14. For info, go their website.

“The Sound of Music” will be performed Jan. 27-30 in the South Tahoe Middle School multipurpose Room.

Performances begin at 7pm. Thursday-Saturday, with a matinee on Jan. 30 at 2pm.

The cast is composed primarily of South Tahoe High School students, with the addition of several talented younger students cast as the Von Trapp children.

Tickets will be available at the door for $12; seniors and students cost $6.

The production is at the middle school while the high school theater is under construction.

Explore Tahoe Winter Speaker Series continues on Jan. 20 at 6pm. Local author and speaker David Antonucci presents “Amazing Facts About Lake Tahoe.”

The presentation highlights the unique natural wonders of geology, lake depth, and natural history of Lake Tahoe that set it apart from other lakes. Explore Tahoe is located in the Heavenly Village next to North Face at 4114 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

St. Theresa School’s crab dinner is Feb. 4.

The dinner and auction are the South Lake Tahoe school’s major fundraiser.

Doors open at 6pm with a cash-only bar. The sit-down dinner is served at 7pm. In addition to crab served two ways, pasta, salad and veggies are on the menu.

There will also be silent and live auctions.

Childcare is available if arranged ahead of time.

Tickets are $40. The event sells out every year. Tickets may be bought at the school (1081 Lyons Ave.) or by calling (530) 544.8944. Drink tickets may also be bought in advance.

The movie “9500 Liberty” will be shown Jan. 22 at 6pm at Duke Theatre on the Lake Tahoe Community College campus in South Lake Tahoe.

The feature-length film was initially shot in segments that were uploaded to YouTube. It’s about a county in Virginia that passed a restrictive immigration law before Arizona passed its version. The Virginia law has since been overturned.

The movie is in English with Spanish subtitles.

Donations are being accepted on behalf of the college’s HOPE Club, which will use the money for scholarships.

Lake Tahoe Community College is creating a different kind of educational environment – a rail jam and more on Feb. 12.

The rail jam is 5-10pm . The fee to enter has not been set, but signups will be just before the competition begins. Ages 9 and older may enter. Cash prizes will be awarded.

The festivities will begin at 2pm with local bands playing.

All of this will be in the parking lot near the Duke Theatre on the campus of the South Lake Tahoe college.

The night will wrap-up with a movie – possibly something for a local filmmaker – in the theater. It will start when the rail jam finishes.
