Tahoe Arts Project is hosting international opera singers Annalisa Winberg & Roy Stevens on Feb. 4 at 7pm at Lake Tahoe Community College Duke Theatre.

Joining them on stage will be the South Lake Tahoe Children’s Choral Society; Blue Ribbon Choir and Tahoe Belles.

This is not your traditional “Opera” performance, but an evening of voice and song.

Since their debuts in 1987, Winberg and Stevens have had professional engagements with opera companies, in recitals and in concerts with symphony orchestras in 23 countries and on five continents. Though they have performed with many of the leading performing organizations in the world (Metropolitan Opera, Teatro alla Scala, Dallas Opera, San Francisco Symphony, New York Opera Orchestra), they have taken particular pleasure in performing with many unusual and off the beaten track organizations.

Cooper Ranch in Plymouth (Amador County) is site of the first Barbera Festival on June 11 from 11am-4pm.

This outdoor wine and food festival will host more than 70 wineries from the Sierra foothills, Paso Robles, Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino, Lake County, the Santa Cruz Mountains, Ventura County, Lodi and the Bay Area. Approximately 1,500 people are expected to attend, with top area restaurants and caterers providing the best in cuisine.

The Barbera Festival is a Green Event and has taken measures to minimize the environmental impact of the festivities, including waste and transportation. The organizing team is also investigating renewable energy purchases and carbon credits. The Barbera Festival is intended to be an annual event with net proceeds going to charity.

Tickets will be available March 1 and are $30/person in advance and $40/person at the door.

TOCCATA – Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus — sixth anniversary Winter MusicFest concert series istitled “Viva Vivaldi”.

This series features a return performance of Elizabeth Pitcairn performing on the world famous “Red Stradivarius Violin” in Vivaldi’s most beloved work, “The Four Seasons”. The program features additional soloists Virginia Bowman, concertmaster; Heather Gallagher, principal second violin; cellist, Charles Taggart; and continuo organist David Brock.

Opening the concert will be baroque trumpets Mark Lord, Mark Hoke and Josh Dunlap performing Vivaldi’s Concerto for 2 trumpets in C major and the TOCCATA Chamber Chorus will perform Vivaldi’s most well known choral work, “Gloria” with vocal soloists Anna Helwing and Joy Strotz, soprano; and Stuart Duke, baritone.

Feb. 4 at 7pm at Trinity Episcopal Church in Reno;

Feb. 5 at 2pm at St. Francis Catholic Church in Incline Village;

Feb. 9 at 7pm at St. Thomas Aquinas Cathedral in Reno. Maestro James Rawie will conduct all performances.

Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce’s annual Business Expo is March 25 from 4-8pm at MontBleu casino in Stateline.

Celebrate Mardi Gras in Minden on March 4 benefits Austin’s House. The third annual Mardi Gras Magic Dinner & Dance is at the Carson Valley Inn.

This fundraiser will recreate the party atmosphere of New Orleans on Fat Tuesday with food, music, dancing, raffle prizes and a Grand Prize drawing for a trip to The Big Easy.

The evening starts at 6pm with a cocktail hour. Then feast on a Cajun buffet dinner featuring peel and eat shrimp, chicken gumbo, blackened fish, sausage steamed in beer, shrimp etouffee and smoked rib eye roast with all of the trimmings.

After dinner, the Mardi Gras Magic party hits full stride with dancing music provided by Fabrizio. Raffle prizes will be drawn every 15 minutes. The silent auction features donated prizes from local businesses.
