Someone driving on the Glenbrook Golf Course caused about $15,000 in damage.
The driver went on the greens and fairways of the course in the early morning hours of June 16, and spun around in a vehicle.

Normally, seeing a bike helmet squished down like a crumpled melon would invoke feelings of dread: It’s a clear signal that somebody had a bad accident.
But with the Closca “Turtle” helmet, it just indicates an unusual design job. The helmet’s three sections compact to less than one half of its full size, allowing it to slip into messenger bags already bulging with iPads, fancy-ass headphones and other accoutrements of the urban-style centurion.
The “Turtle” is being marketed on Kickstarter right now by Closca, an up-and-coming maker of helmets based in Valencia, Spain. (It’s one prototype in a small field of folding helmets, like the Transformers-looking object from Overade and BioLogic’s fencing mask.) The Closca guys conceived of the accordioning brain-guard a few years back during an argument about helmet usage: Why do some people still not wear them, they wondered, when they so clearly help save lives?
They decided the answer was twofold: It can be a chore to carry them around when not cycling, and they detract from the cool, hair-blowing-in-the-wind look that free-scalpers enjoy.
So they built this hardhat to address both issues. A rider can collapse the helmet in a second or less into an easy-to-store, book-like object.
And as for the fashion issue, the Closca team has conjured up “interchangeable textile covers” that they say “have been designed by experts following the latest trendy patterns”.
The trendiness becomes obvious, maybe, once you see actual people wearing them.
Closca promises that its telescoping noggin-wrapper, if funded, will swiftly become “part of the urban cyclists’ way of dressing and lifestyle.” Seeing as how they were only $5,227 toward a $45,000 goal on Monday evening, that is a big “if.”

Gun sales boomed across California to record levels last year as horrific mass shootings reignited the gun control debate, new state figures show.
A growing number of Sacramento-area gun dealers – about 200 and counting – sold a total of 74,000 firearms in 2012, roughly 20,000 more than in the previous year.
That’s enough guns to provide a new firearm to every resident in the city of Folsom. And sales are still going strong.
The smoke that people on the South Shore are smelling is from fires outside of the Lake Tahoe Basin.
There are fires burning near Mariposa on Highway 140, one of the roads leading into Yosemite National Park. The 2.5-square-mile fire that started Sunday is 15 percent contained. More than 100 houses have been evacuated.
There is a red flag warning today for the entire Lake Tahoe Basin and much of western Nevada. The National Weather Service in Reno warns that “the combination of gusty winds and low humidity will create critical fire weather conditions.”

CARSON CITY — David Morrow, administrator of the state Division of Parks for the past 10 years, is retiring and he jokes it’s because of “old age.”
Morrow turns 65 in September and he said Monday he wants time to walk, hike and fish.
He worked 30 years in Utah before being chosen to head the Nevada system of 24 parks.
The park system took some big hits during the economic downturn with the state budget being cut by 60 percent. But he said the division was able to keep parks open and operating.
The two biggest parks in the system are the Valley of Fire in Southern Nevada and Lake Tahoe Park, both getting close to 1 million visitors a year.
The system, in cooperation with Douglas County, operated the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park, but the state gave it up during the recession to the county.
His last day will be in July, but he’ll be on annual leave most of August.
The replacement will be named by Leo Drozdoff, director of the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. The incoming administrator will earn $107,165.
• Another popular golfer at the annual American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe is not coming. Tony Romo is going to be at the Cowboys’ training camp instead next month. Michael Jordan is also skipping the July event.
• Douglas County commissioners are set to vote on the Tahoe area plan June 20. The meeting in Stateline starts at 1:30pm.
• Sand Harbor was listed as one of the “10 Best Beaches for Families” by Family Vacation Critic.
• The first section of the 3.2-mile bike path that will ultimately connect Round Hill Pines Beach with Stateline along the South Shore of Lake Tahoe is complete. To mark the occasion, a dedication ceremony for America’s Most Beautiful Bikeway – South Demonstration Project is June 20, noon to 1pm at Kahle Drive. The next phase is slated to begin in late summer.
• The Paddle Run 2013 is a 1-mile standup paddleboard and 2-mile run at the Sparks Marina (300 Howard Drive, Sparks) on July 6 at 8am. Cost is $45. For more info, email pat@athleteinyou.com.
Last year SUP pro athlete Anthony Vela hailed the Race the Lake of the Sky his top pick for the best standup paddle event of the year.
This year’s event kicks off June 28 with race clinics where world renowned hosts Candice Appleby (SurftechSup, FCSSUP, Ocean Minded) and Anthony Vela (Boardworks Surf, FCSSUP, Ocean Minded) will share a few keys to paddling success.
On June 29 there will be a 5-mile race, SUP cross events and a special event for kids.
That Sunday there will be a 14-mile distance race, relays and the best “sweet” move contest.
Music and food will be on shore at El Dorado Beach in South Lake Tahoe.

Now is the time to work on your home’s defensible space.
