El Dorado County Health and Human Services Agency, Public Health Division will conduct low-cost community flu vaccination clinics starting Sept. 19, with additional clinics offered through mid-November.

The seasonal influenza vaccine will be available in nasal mist and flu shot forms at the clinics.

This season’s nasal flu vaccine is quadrivalent, which means that it offers protection against four strains of influenza. The vaccine can be given to healthy, non-pregnant individuals that are 2 through 49 years of age.

The cost of the vaccine is $10, but no one will be denied service due to inability to pay; cash or check accepted. Parents should bring their child’s immunization records. Updated information on the community flu clinics will be posted online and on the County Flu Hotline at (530) 621.6188.

A 200-pound black bear wandered into an Incline Village home on Aug. 20 after it pushed through a screen door.

Family members locked themselves in rooms and called for help.

Washoe County sheriff’s deputies shot rubber bullets at the animal, which scared it away. The bear was last seen running into the woods.

No one was hurt.

As it turned out, it wasn’t just horseback riders and hikers who had something against the Tahoe Sierra 100 endurance mountain bike race: Mother Nature, in the form of a wildfire, also had something to say.

The race, using portions of the rugged Western States Trail over the Sierra, had been scheduled for Saturday.

The trail, once used by miners, is now the province of hikers, horsemen, runners, bikers and motorcycle riders. Connecting Squaw Valley to Auburn, it’s home to the Tevis Cup horse race and Western States 100 run. In both races, participants cover 100 miles in a single day.

Jim Northey, organizer of the bike race, envisioned the Tahoe Sierra 100 growing to the same stature as the horse and foot races and making Auburn the nation’s endurance race capital.

But in the face of opposition from a recently formed group called the Western States Safe Trails Alliance and without a permit to hold the race in hand, Northey canceled the event in early August.

Counties in Nevada within the Lake Tahoe Basin will now abide by the same total maximum daily load rules that are set in California.

The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection has deals with Douglas and Washoe counties and the Nevada Department of Transportation.

The goal is to reduce the amount of sediment reaching Lake Tahoe.

Nevada and California local governments and state transportation agencies are responsible for controlling stormwater discharges from their respective jurisdictions.

The agreements are good through Aug. 16, 2016, though officials say it is viewed as “living commitments” that are intended to be updated on a five-year cycle.

Junior hockey is coming to South Lake Tahoe.

Tahoe Hockey Partners LLC gave a presentation to the South Lake Tahoe City Council on Tuesday about its plans. The city owns the ice rink, though it is operated by a private company.

Lake Tahoe Blue will play their inaugural Junior A hockey season at the South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena as part of the Pacific Division of the Western Conference of the Western States Hockey League. The first preseason game is Sept. 20, with the league staring Oct. 4.

Tahoe Hockey Partners was formed by Greg Jamison and Van Oleson. The Lake Tahoe Blue team general manager is Chris Collins. Jamison is the former president and CEO of the San Jose Sharks.

“Hockey is our passion and we look forward to building a strong team and a strong fan base,” Jamison said in a statement. “We believe South Lake Tahoe will be a great hockey town for Lake Tahoe Blue and we are committed to making our team an important and fun part of this community.”

Oleson is one of the founders of Tahoe Sports Entertainment, the private corporation that operates the South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena. Oleson also has a background in business development for Fortune 100 companies.

Collins is a recognized international leader in the broadcast, digital streaming, content rights and sports business industries and has been very involved in youth, junior and professional hockey organizations.

CARSON CITY — Harrah’s in Reno is in bad shape and it won a reduction in its taxable value from the state Board of Equalization this week.

But it’s far short of what the hotel-casino sought.

The Washoe County’s Assessor’s Office set the value at $20.5 million, and the board — after three deadlocked votes — put the taxable value at $16.2 million. Harrah’s suggested the value at $8.8 million, said Mark Stafford of the assessor’s office.

John Knott, a consultant for Harrah’s, told the board the 928-room hotel was not in good condition and it would take $19 million to make needed improvements.

El Dorado Savings and Loan in South Lake Tahoe was robbed today at 9:30am.

The suspect walked into the bank and presented the teller with a demand note. The suspect claimed to be armed but did not display a weapon.

Police are not saying how much money the robber got away with.

A potential suspect vehicle was seen driving quickly away from the area of the bank. This is a black four-door dual-cab Dodge Ram pickup with a tool box in the bed. The estimated year of the truck is 2000-2005. This vehicle turned westbound on Lake Tahoe Boulevard away from the bank.

The suspect appears to be a white male adult in his 50s, approximately 6-feet-2-inches-tall, weight proportionate to height, wearing a beige baseball cap, a short-sleeved plaid button down shirt, khaki cargo shorts and flip flops.

A Placerville couple has been indicted in a tax fraud case that resulted in charges earlier this year against the owner and employees of a Placerville tax preparation business.

Charles and Victoria Tingler were arrested Aug. 20 on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud the United States and filing multimillion-dollar liens against government officials.

The superseding indictment, unsealed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Sacramento, adds the Tinglers and also adds charges for Teresa Marie Marty. Marty, who owned and operated a tax preparation business called Advanced Financial Services, is also charged with filing liens against the property of three IRS employees and filing liens of at least $84 million against the property of two U.S. Justice Department attorneys.
