A California Highway Patrol officer arrested on several drug charges previously had been fired because of drug-related accusations, KCRA 3 has learned.
Officer Ruben Salgado has been locked up in jail for more than a week in Placer County, where he was arraigned on felony counts.
CHP brass previously described Salgado as an average officer, but court documents show suspicions about bad behavior go back at least six years.
The Nifty 50 Trolley begins its seasonal service on the South Shore on May 22.
This trolley that looks a bit like a San Francisco cable car on wheels operates from the South Y Transit Station to Tahoma via Highway 89 and Camp Richardson Resort. It will run through Sept. 6; then weekends only until Oct. 3.
Trolleys stop at various locations such as Camp Rich, Valhalla, Tallac Historic Site, Emerald Bay State Park as well as providing connecting service with the TART transit service in Tahoma.

Summer officially kicks off in North Lake Tahoe on Memorial Day Weekend with the 4th annual Opening Day at the Lake.
This five-day special event begins May 27 and runs through May 31. It is comprised of celebrations and festivities primarily along the West Shore.
“This is our official launch into the boating and summer season,” Andy Chapman, of the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association, said in a statement. “The first days of summer bring with them a buzz of excitement and we wanted to capture that. People are eager to get outside and enjoy themselves. Whether it’s on the water, on the beaches or taking part in other seasonal events, it’s a great time of year to explore North Tahoe.”

Opening Day at the Lake events include deck opening celebrations at Sunnyside Resort, Bridgetender Grill and Chamber’s Landing Bar & Restaurant, openings and tours of the historical Vikingsholm Castle and Ehrman Mansion, guided tours of the Tahoe Maritime Museum along with activities for kids, community clean ups, open house at the Rideout Community Center, as well as the Mike Brown Seaplane Splash-In and barbecue.
New this year is the Obexer’s General Store Grand Opening, along with stand-up paddleboard relay races and demonstrations at Sunnyside Resort and Obexer’s Marina. There will also be a special winemaker dinner at Swiss Lakewood Restaurant with wines from John and Lane Giguiere, and a “Launch into Summer” celebration and fundraiser and “History of Seaplanes” lecture series at the Tahoe Maritime Museum.

Harrah’s Entertainment and MTV Games are again seeking the best Rock Band gamers in the United States with the 2nd Annual Total Rock, Total Rewards Rock Band Competition.
Five participating Harrah’s Total Rewards Casinos will host Rock Band Nights. The five participating Harrah’s casinos are: Harveys Lake Tahoe, Harrah’s Joliet, Bally’s Atlantic City, Bill’s Gamblin’ Hall & Saloon in Las Vegas, and Caesars Windsor.
MTV Games will work with an additional 15 venues across the country to host Rock Band Bar Nights until June 13. The top scoring band from each venue will receive a chance to enter and compete in the exciting event in Bally’s Atlantic City hotel and casino July 1-2. The winning band will receive $10,000 and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet Ringo Starr.
Additionally, one band will win a wildcard chance from an online competition at Harrahs.com and fly to Atlantic City in a private jet provided by XOJET. A camera crew, and a Rock Band expert will accompany the online winners to the 2010 Total Rock, Total Rewards Rock Band Competition, which will be produced by MTV Games, and hosted and judged by MTV Games, Harrah’s and local celebrities.
The 2009 winners, The Gurn Killers from New York City, received $10,000 and opened for the B-52s at the House of Blues in Atlantic City.

Seniors who meet income requirements can pick up $20 farmers’ market coupons at senior centers in Placerville and South Lake Tahoe.
The USDA coupons can be used for fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs at Certified Farmer’s Markets and are distributed through the El Dorado County Department of Human Services.
There will be a public meeting June 3 at 6pm at Hidatsa Court in Lake Valley Fire District to discuss the upcoming fuels reduction project that will be going on in the neighborhood.
Agencies will include CalFire, California Tahoe Conservancy, Lake Valley Fire District and Nevada Fire Safe Council.

Lake Tahoe Unified students in grades 4-8 will perform a variety of light rock and pop music, from jazz and blues to John Williams Superman Theme, 2001 Fanfare and Louie, Louie on May 26.
The free event is at the South Tahoe Middle School multipurpose room. Grades 4-6 perform from 6-6:45pm, while older kids go from 7:30-8:30pm.

MEYERS — The California Conservation Corps Lake Tahoe Residential Center is moving forward with its estimated $13 million facility improvements.
Construction includes renovation of the minimalist 84-corps member residential areas, new dining hall, gymnasium, and classrooms for corps member use.

Bids for the project open May 26.
State estimates for construction and renovation of the 42,719-square-foot Lake Tahoe Residential Center is set at $13 million. That’s approximately $304 per square foot.
The CCC project has been a long time in the making; state bonds that were released for use nine years ago are funding renovations.
It will likely take two building seasons to finish the project.
From 1989 to 1997 Tahoe CCC was headquartered in the Meyers location, and has since relocated twice. Once was to Echo Summit and then back to the Meyers building. The latest relocation to Meyers was five years ago, which meant expelling two local businesses and relieving the economic burden of a then-struggling senior living facility.
The agency also must believe it is a private entity by the way it conducts itself. Apparently the officials in Meyers and Sacramento who did not return multiple phone calls have forgotten it is taxpayer money that pays their salaries, keeps the organization running and will foot the construction costs.
