U.S. Forest Service fuels management crews will be conducting prescribed fire operations on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe in the Echo View Drive area Jan. 28.

The project off Sawmill Road is approximately one-third of an acre.

Residents and visitors can expect to see smoke from prescribed fire project areas. Smoke management is part of every prescribed fire burn plan, and efforts will be taken to reduce actual or potential smoke impacts on community areas.

This and other prescribed fire projects are designed to reduce wildfire risks to communities and critical resources.

State and local fire management agencies may also be conducting prescribed fire work during this period.

All South Tahoe High School parents are invited to Spring Term Welcome on Feb. 11 from 5-7:15pm.

This night gives parents an opportunity to meet their student’s teachers, review course descriptions, course objectives, homework requirements, and grading procedures. Parents will learn more about the school and the programs.

A reception will be in the library from 5-5:0pm. Several student groups and community organizations will be represented. Classroom visitations will begin at 5:40pm.

Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce mixer is at Gi Fu Loh in Harrah’s Lake Tahoe in Stateline on Feb. 8 from 5:30-7:30pm.

It clearly is not 1937, when 31 inches of snow fell in Truckee on this date. But the National Weather Service in Reno is calling for a chance of snow Saturday night and into Sunday.

The fleet of buses on the South Shore is about to increase by two.

This is because the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors on Jan. 25 voted to allow the Tahoe Transportation District to use the two buses the county took off the road in July. They had been part of the BlueGo service, and will resume being so as long as TTD runs the bus service.

BlueGo buses stored at the county yard in Meyers will be put back in service.

The resolution that was passed by the supervisors stipulates the buses be used to service county residents on the South Shore.

The legal questions pertaining to the county’s financial involvement with TTD are still being worked out.
