IHOP’s Scary Face Pancake Giveaway returns to participating IHOP restaurants nationwide Oct. 28.
Kids 12 and under may design and dine on their own Free Scary Face Pancake creations from 7am to 10pm.
The pre-Halloween giveaway launched last year as a playful take on IHOP’s popular Funny Face Pancake. The Scary Face Pancake is an oversized signature buttermilk pancake with a whipped topping mouth and strawberry nose, and two mini Oreo cookies and candy corn on the side to allow kids to create their Halloween hotcake.
The Scary Face Pancake will also be available for purchase throughout October.
Tahoe Arts Project is having an evening of music on the beach on Aug. 4 from 7-9pm.
Lakeshore Lodge and Spa in South Lake Tahoe is hosting this benefit for Tahoe Arts Project that will feature the music of Niall McGuiness, Trey Stone and Rocky Sleight. Bring blankets and low back chairs, but no pets.
Hot dogs, sodas and baked goods will be available for sale. A suggested donation of $10 per person will support Tahoe Arts Project’s mission of bringing professional performing arts into the schools and community of South Lake Tahoe.

The North Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce’s Business Mixer is in Incline Village Aug. 4, 5-7pm, at 250 Village Blvd.
The mixer is hosted by businesses that occupy the 250 Village Blvd. building, including Simonian Flooring, Bradley Electrical Plumbing & Heating, James Costalupes Construction and Incline Tahoe Class.
Attendees can dance to live music of Under the Radar, enjoy a barbecue and free wine tasting with Incline Spirits, as well as take part in a raffle.

Steve Wasserman, the South Lake Tahoe man in prison for nearly slashing his ex-girlfriend to death, will spend at least another seven years in prison.
He was up for parole this week, but was denied. The parole board said he could try again in seven years. The victim, Susie Rizk Laney, had hoped the next chance Wasserman would have for parole would be in 15 years.
On Oct. 25, 2005, Wasserman nearly killed Laney with a 2-foot-long Samurai sword. Their daughter who was 4 at the time watched as he tried to kill her at their South Lake Tahoe home.

There are about two weeks left to donate to the Friday Night Lights project at South Tahoe High as part of the Heavenly Mountain Resort-South Tahoe Alliance of Resorts matching challenge.
Heavenly and STAR pledged to match the community up to $20,000 to help put in lights at the South Tahoe football field.
The community is a little more than halfway.
More than $1.2 million is either pledged or in hand, and only another $216,242 is needed to reach the goal for Phase 1.

The North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District responded to a brush fire on the corner of Alder Avenue and Northwood Boulevard in Incline Village on the afternoon of July 27.
The cause of the 15 foot by 30 foot blaze is under investigation.

Eastern Placer County may see its political influence diminish as the county adjusts political boundaries to accommodate the Lake Tahoe area’s shrinking full-time population.
Under tentative redistricting maps, the supervisorial district that includes the north shore of Lake Tahoe will grow to include Auburn.
“It’s pretty much a foregone conclusion that the city of Auburn would move into District 5,” said Tom Miller, Placer County’s executive officer.
The Board of Supervisors will see the latest maps in early August and hopes to finalize the new boundaries by the end of the month.
District 5 currently includes the area of North Auburn north of Highway 49 and runs along Interstate 80 east to the Nevada border.
The shift in boundaries is being precipitated by substantial population growth in Roseville, Lincoln, Rocklin and Granite Bay, while other parts of the county have either remained stable or decreased in population.

A more than 16,000-acre fire in Tulare County, Calif., an area about 300 miles south of Reno, is sending up clouds of hazy smoke into the Truckee Meadows area.
Scott McGuire, a National Weather Service meteorologist, said the Lion Fire’s smoke is reaching “along the entire spine of the Sierra Nevada” because of a southwestern wind which is pushing up all of the smoke.
“And we’re not looking at much significant afternoon wind to push this smoke out in the next couple of days,” he said. “We are expecting continued reduced visibilities through the evening because of the fire.”
