Thunderbirds to be at Minden air show
The Air Force Thunderbirds will be performing during the Aviation Round-up on Aug. 22-23 at the Minden Tahoe Airport.
The Thunderbirds squadron is an Air Combat Command unit composed of eight pilots (including six demonstration pilots), four support officers, four civilians and more than 100 enlisted personnel performing in almost 30 job specialties. A Thunderbirds air demonstration is a mix of formation flying and solo routines. The pilots perform approximately 40 maneuvers in a demonstration. The entire show, including
the ground show and air demonstration, lasts about 75 minutes.
Civilian aircraft will also be performing.

Remember when we had a great Airshow?
I realize that was likely meant to initiate yet one more ***** session, but yes, I do remember watching the Thunderbirds from the top of Saddle.
That was back when they were flying the big, smoky F-4s (thus living up to the “Thunder..” in their name) and from my vantage I was looking down at some of their maneuvers. They were apparently using Heavenly as one of their markers as they climbed out directly above and up The Face.
FAA required that boats on the Lake be a set distance from directly below the performance. Nevertheless, I recall the police “Marine One” having to respond to several sail boats knocked down by the vortexes and turbulence.
Where I now live they’ll likely be flying right over my house. But I’ve happily driven a lot further than Lake Tahoe to Minden to see an air show.
