Nasty weather to blow through Tahoe

Outdoor plans may need to be changed late this week in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Long pants are likely to replace shorts. Furnaces are apt to be churning instead of windows open.

Winter is returning for a few days.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for the bulk of May 14 for locations above 6,000 feet. The heaviest snow is expected Thursday afternoon and evening, with accumulations of 2 to 6 inches. A foot or more is possible along the Sierra Crest in Alpine and Mono counties.

“The snow will lead to travel delays with several high elevation roads being closed. This includes Monitor, Ebbetts, Sonora and Tioga passes. Snow may also slow travel over Carson Pass and the Mount Rose Highway,” the NWS said.

Light snow is in the forecast for Friday and rain part of the weekend.
