The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Explorer POST 457 has been awarded a grant from the NRA Foundation Grant Program — Teach Freedom.

The grants are designed to invest in the next generation of America’s leaders and support youth firearm related programs.

The money will be used to purchase supplies, equipment, and firearms, as well as provide explorers monthly gun training.

El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Explorer POST 457 completed its first range training day in August. They were taught gun safety, basic gun handling and familiarization, and how to maintain and clean a weapon.

Good for the EDSO post! Contrary to gun-ban advocates, teaching young people the proper use & handling of firearms increases safety. I began shooting when I was about 8 years old under very close supervision of my dad & then joined an NRA affiliated shooting club with the support of both my parents when I was 10. Instruction with emphasis on safety & skills was foremost. There was never an accident even though I kept my competition rifle in my bedroom. I still shoot to this day & I’m a 65 year old woman.

Every one should know how a gun works and which end is not to be trifled with. If this were the case we would have fewer accidents. knowledge never hurt anyone.

I own a gun…was a competition shooter for a few years in my teens and early 20’s.

Guns are not sacred, very available and any training is good as opposed to no training.

I think they should show videos of people getting shot and what they look like afterword so people see truth instead of Hollywood.

Finally, I think we should limit out civilian police to 6 shot guns. This might cut back on the Spray and pray shooting practices of our cops even when someone is running from a minor infraction.

Ask yourself, if you were black, living on the edge of survival and, with current events being what they are, would you not be tempted to run if you were accosted by a screaming gun packer?

The cops assumption that everybody who tries to get away is guilty of some heinous crime is really all too common and rarely grounded in truth.

‘The grants are designed to invest in the next generation of America’s leaders and support youth firearm related programs’- BS
Today’s NRA is nothing more than the sales department for gun manufacturers. Creating and financing gunnut politicians and planting the seeds for an omniarmed citizenry is their business model-our gun deaths and injuries are horrendous-the rest of the world views us as an incredibly violent and evil society-
    this must stop

If the NRA is for it, I am against it. Tea is correct, today’s NRA is nothing more then a lobbying firm for the gun manufacturers.
