By Julie Hirschfeld Davis, New York Times

President Obama announced on Sunday that Mount McKinley was being renamed Denali, using his executive power to restore an Alaska Native name with deep cultural significance to the tallest mountain in North America.

The move came on the eve of Obama’s trip to Alaska, where he will spend three days promoting aggressive action to combat climate change, and is part of a series of steps he will make there meant to address the concerns of Alaska Native tribes.

It is the latest bid by the president to fulfill his 2008 campaign promise to improve relations between the federal government and the nation’s Native American tribes, an important political constituency that has a long history of grievances against the government.

If the natives wanted to rename it then they should be the ones. Not the idiot from Washington. I’ll bet if it was named after a black president he would not have changed the name and would call those who wanted to racists.

He should be more concerned with fighting ISIS than climate. Ohhh, but that’s right, he sympathizes with them. POS

‘if the natives wanted to rename it they should be the ones’-
90+% of Alaskans and Sen. Lisa Murkowski(R) lobbied for this change in coordination with Pres. Obama’s visit-
    wake up doofus

Kits it is fairly obvious that you are not from Alaska, Alaskan, both native and the egenral populous has been wanting to change the name for decades. The Senators and congressmen from Ohio have blocked it everytime as Mckinley was from Ohio.

So Kits, you think our priority as a nation should be to spend ANOTHER trillion dollars fighting on turf that doesn’t belong to us against an entity that poses little or no threat against 99.99999999% of Americans?

    Classic right wing zealot logic!

Im more worried about the gun violence in our own country than the problems overseas. Ya, isis is an ugly thing but so is having kids massacred in schools and theaters here in my country.

Im proud of my president for taking the time for some of the every day mundane issues that need addressing. Its part of his job, and his interests here on american turf are to the benefit of all americans. In case you forgot, kitty litter, he was elected by a large majority of american voters. So get over it already…
Better yet, go live in some other country where your whining might get you stoned to death, or your tingue cut out for blasphemy or treason. You have no idea how good you have it living in america…..POS

Naming a spectacularly beautiful mountain in Alaska after a dead Republican from Ohio always seemed ludicrous to me. If Ohioans wanted mountains named after their native sons they should grow their own – mountains, that is.

Bigger….they are already on OUR soil here. Classic head in sand syndrome on your part.

Relo: I have no issue with the native people changing the name. I simply don’t like that O’Vomit is involved. In my opinion he has little to zero respect for America and doesn’t deserve the right to be involved in this. That’s all.

bats in bell: I know we have it good here except for the president you libs re-elected. He lets ISIS into our country and sees them as no threat. Seriously? They HATE US and our way of life. Look up Best gore.com and click on beheadings if you have the stomach to see what these animals do to humans. I believe the video of the day is (yet again) the burning of four humans alive. They want all of us DEAD!!! Your presidents ratings are pretty low now and the majority of the country is sick of him and his race baiting ways and thug friends. HE is a major reason lots of LEO’s are being killed in cold blood.

I dont have to go to some website to see the S×/t you mention, I can see the horrific gun violence that is happening in my own backyard by people with unfettered access to guns (a weapon of death) here in our country. I see people like you, kitty litter, who seem to not get it that there is a problem right here in america with the same violence you want to blame on the president of the united states. He is pretty much damned if he does or damned if he dosent because idiots like YOU want to blame him for the actions of others. Obama hasnt pulled the trigger of these guns or used the knives to behead innocent people by the horific murderers but I guess if you feel better blaming obama, well thats your bag. Who are you gonna blame when there is a new president? BECAUSE YOU ARE JUST A FINGER POINTER WHO GETS HIS ROCKS OFF BY BEING HATEFUL. Maybe yo u need to look in the mirror to see where the problem really lies. HATEFUL POS

Denali? Sounds middle eastern to me, don’t get it. I do like the oVomit comment, hey he is muslin, so Denali it is, anything goes these days, what the heck!

Bat head: If you can’t see that your president has perpetuated the racism, then you are dumber than I thought. No, he is not the only one responsible…..his pals like Sharp-Tongue and other muslim radicals he seems to rub elbows with are prime contributors.
You haven’t the guts or stomach to check out what ISIS is doing so you have no valid opinion. BTW if you decide to check it out…I can only imagine you should on an empty stomach.
