Fox News hurts GOP, Bush official says

By Alana Horowitz, Huffington Post

Fox News is hurting the Republican Party, according to a study conducted by a top official in the first Bush administration.

The study, authored by Bruce Bartlett, who worked in the Treasury Department under George H. W. Bush and was also a domestic policy adviser to Ronald Reagan, found that Fox viewers tended to be less informed about current affairs than people who watch mainstream news — and even people who don’t watch the news at all.

“Republican voters get so much of their news from Fox, which cheerleads whatever their candidates are doing or saying, that they suffer from wishful thinking and fail to see that they may not be doing as well as they imagine, or that their ideas are not connecting outside the narrow party base,” Bartlett said.

    This should be great!!!
Let the games begin! Who’s gonna be first? Justice? Rock? Hmm? Kits?Duke? Bats?
Come on gang, let’s get this party started! The left versus right diatribe on this sight is so very entertaining.

    Funny. He also said:

Bartlett asserted that it was a bigger problem for conservatives than liberals because they did not have their own network for a long time, and then they “drank very heavily from the Fox waters.”

Read between the lines. Not having their own network implies that all other networks are liberally biased. And they are. So who is getting brainwashed again?

Hahaha. Your comments are great, Haddi!

TV news sources, all of them, are nothing more than entertainment based news. If your not getting your news from multiple sources you will guarantee yourself an extremely myopic view of the world.

This article points out a fundamental truth about FOX News. It is almost impossible to have a sensible conversation about politics with a FOX viewer. The fables they promote are gospel to the viewers and no matter how outlandish, unlikely or untrue it is, there is no dialog to be had. This divides America more and more all the time. My spouse says FOX News is a front for selling gold stock and ED pills.

It has a sad side too. I’ve lost a couple of good friends over this and I know others who have too.

This story from the Huff-Puff is leftist blather reporting and invention and an opinion. Everything that someone can think of has a bias of perspective built in based on many things, experiences, lifestyles, economic success or failure and values. These come from what your forefathers and parents and their parents stood for, fought for, and died for to make free speech free from starting from the 1st Amendment and protected as a choice of free expression and a right that is under assault by the PC left. Fox news has been under the skin of liberals for a long time because they don’t like uncontrolled non liberal scripted free speech opposing the liberal agenda and this is even though Fox employs many liberals for balanced coverage which is unlike the major leftist networks who should do the same. Fox is always singled out like they are guilty of something when people are smart enough to gather their own news from whatever source they want and they are smart to not trust the leftist media networks who conceal the real news and only report pre-approved PC items while reading a script for entertainment and sports and fluff pieces while every serious crime and scandal and dangerous world crises and the policy failures involving the left in DC and King Hussein are missing and blatantly without reporting or action in major media outside of Fox and talk radio and some net sites. Too much news on leftist networks is covered up on orders and everyone with a brain knows it. It is sad that better reporting on many stories is now coming from the UK papers.

I think referring to foxnooz as brainwashing is overkill-their target audience requires only a gentle rinse

Let me guess… you read The Daily Mail.

I agree wholeheartedly with Bigger. Don Henly laid it on the line with the song Dirty Laundry. A close friend of mine is the news director for a network news station in the Bay Area (left anonymous here)has told me more than once that it is “all about the ratings” A live car chase trumps real news every time. Walter Cronkite is dead in more ways than one.

Justice does make a point though …… only in his second sentence discussing a few of the sources of personal bias. After that? Decide for yourselves.

like I have said before. leftist can’t just turn the channel, it bugs them so much they have to try and silence anybody else’s point of view. good job boys

While we are practicing political generalizations: Conservatives watch NASCAR for the wrecks.

    OH. MY. GOD.

“…they suffer from wishful thinking and fail to see that they may not be doing as well as they imagine, or that their ideas are not connecting outside the narrow party base,”

Neutrality, anyone? Is this just meant to be inflammatory?

To conservatives: Don’t bother arguing in this thread. It’s pointless.

To liberals: Fox and Bush are conservative in name only. I haven’t watched Fox in over three years. Everyone who has ever watched Fox is not automatically stupid because a seemingly biased liberal study says so.

To everyone: Stop watching mainstream media, including Fox. None of it is any good.

To admin: Turn off the comments now, before ten people waste an entire day of their life insulting each other.

Have a nice day everyone! /sarc

Al Jazeera has the best news coverage–especially of world news. Very good in depth reporting on everything from social issues to science and technology and medicine.

  16. Parker says - Posted: May 25, 2015

I love Fox News! Never watch it. Haven’t seen anything on it in over 18 months. But I’ll get in a debate with a liberal. And rather than counter what I say, they’ll just blurt out, “Fox News has your mind messed up.” Or something along those lines.

When I reply that I don’t watch Fox News, they don’t know what to say. Well except on occasion get really desperate and play that whole Obama race card thing.

So liberals love Fox too. It’s their boogeyman!

  17. duke of prunes says - Posted: May 25, 2015

Your mind was probably compromised prior to watching. Viewing fox news is a symptom, not the cause of a problem.
Interesting how fox claims so many viewers… yet there is not one here.

  18. reloman says - Posted: May 25, 2015

Haddi you nailed it from the start. LMAO both sides from the far right and left are coming out of the woodwork. HAHAHA.
It is interesting to note that Fox news only have about 3.7 million prime time veiwers on average, thats not alot less than 1% of the US.

  19. duke of prunes says - Posted: May 25, 2015

That an incomplete statistic, is it supposed to mean anything?

  20. Julie Threewit says - Posted: May 25, 2015

You could have ended that headline at “hurts”.

  21. business owner says - Posted: May 25, 2015

So if fox news is so horrible and tells lies, then who is good and tells the truth?

  22. Atomic says - Posted: May 26, 2015

As stated earlier, the truth becomes crystallized with using multiple sources over time. None of the major news sources will devote the time to sort through the fine details on a given news show. THEY ARE ALL SELLING AD TIME. The truth is often elusive, yet any patient person can find it with a little discipline and an open mind. I have bashed Faux News many times and I will again, but I agree with some of their points on occasion. Yet the world is complex and truth is often hidden in layers. Most of the news is just fast food. Eat McDonalds every day and you will become sick and delusional. Diversify your information diet.

In the spirit of Memorial Day, we must honor the fallen and navigate our countries’ issues with maturity, patience and an open heart and mind. Those fallen men and women deserve for the U.S. citizens to become truly educated in the truth. The truth takes time.

  23. greengrass says - Posted: May 26, 2015

It’s a shame that people on both sides can be so insecure in their beliefs that they need to attack anyone that disagrees.

LOL! Just@ss uses 275 words and never even mentions Bruce Bartlett or what he wrote or said…

“[i]t can almost be called self-brainwashing — many conservatives now refuse to listen to any news or opinion not vetted through Fox, and to believe whatever appears on it as the gospel truth.”

“I don’t think that word [‘self-brainwashing’] is too strong — I think many conservatives live in a bubble, where they watch only Fox News on television, they listen only to conservative talk radio — Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, many of the same people.”

    – B. Bartlett

    Classic!
