The Bicycle Advisory Committee expects to continue to have work until 2030.

The application deadline is 5pm Jan. 16. The application can be obtained by mail or email from the South Lake Tahoe City Clerk, 1901 Airport Road, 530.542.6004 or eapalazzo@cityofslt.us.

If Gary Bell, whatever his desires, isn’t forced to become a member of this committee, then it will start, and likely finish, with no credibility.

Copper: The Bicycle Advisory Committee has worked hard for several years and has made exceptional progress on repairing, maintaining, improving, and creating new bike paths. The members have worked with the TRPA, the Conservancy, the City, and the County to respond to the community and work with the area plans. It is a committee under the Recreation JPA, on which I serve for the City.

Sorry JoAnn, I guess in my enthusiasm to promote Gary, himself a long time promoter of bicycling in and around South Lake Tahoe, as well as a supporter of law enforcement bicycle patrols, I went a bit overboard and, unintentionally, denigrated folks who are apparently already deeply involved. Nice to know that the alphabet soup of government agencies is playing well together; I hope that the folks who have supported community bicycling for decades when no one else would speak out or participate are likewise being sought out and being heard.

No offense taken, Copper, it is hard to stay up on all that is happening. I might also mention, just to set your mind more at ease, that we work with the Bicycle Coalition, which is represented on this committee. Our committee meetings are usually the first Friday of the month, usually in Council Chambers, and usually at 9:00 am. The next Recreation JPA meeting is set for Friday, January 23, 2015, at 9:00 am in Council Chambers as well. The public is always welcome to attend and give input. I believe there is a lot of support and interest in more bicycle opportunities in South Lake Tahoe.
