Got my voter info package and I found it interesting that only the Female Candidates decided to publish there voter guide information in Spanish. I am voting Female across the board.

While I recognize that people who have lived in SLT for an extended time period or those “born and raised in South Lake Tahoe” may indeed have passion for this City, I am not convinced that those circumstances alone make those individuals the most qualified to be a City Council member (or an EDC Supervisor) and to have the responsibility of making what are extremely important decisions regarding the future of this community. I believe that SLT is on the precipice of potential success or continued failure and personally I want to see whoever is the most qualified sitting in those City Council seats and whoever is capable of making the tough decisions which are best for the ENTIRE community.

I also think that anyone elected to office, whether to the City Council or EDC Supervisor, MUST be able to read, understand, and interpret Financial Statements accurately because those are the documents used in business and government to communicate important financial information for an entity. Otherwise, how do they know what’s going on? All City FY 2014-15 projected revenues total $73.2 million and that publicly owned “business” of SLT needs elected representatives with strong understandings of accrual accounting and finance to operate at the highest level possible. This isn’t some little local shop that can run off a cash-accounting, checkbook, QuickBooks platform.

And contrary to the conjecture of some regular posters on this website, individuals living in this community for a shorter time period are actually capable of caring every bit as much about SLT as some of you self-aggrandizing “long time locals”.

Past members of the city council that have been in the community for a “shorter time period” have only server one term or less on the council. Past “shorter time period” people don’t have a good track record.

    Mr. Pierini:

Track record for what exactly? Are you saying that ALL shorter time period residents have only “server one term or less on the council” and that only “long-time residents” are capable of being what you would consider good City Council members?

Why is it that some people who have apparently lived in SLT for an extended time try to make a contest out of who has lived here the longest? What is the purpose for that?

Research past members and you will know what I mean or give me a call and I will name, names. Their history speaks for itself. Sad but true.

Spouse – 4-mer-usmc, LTN gave you your votes. David, Laine and Sass all have the budget experience you are looking for.

    Mr. Pierini:

All I asked for was an answer to a simple question and what I get is that old, worn-out instruction for me to perform research on your accusations. How typical.

And “give me a call”? EWW!! I don’t think so.

You know, there are some “long-term” business people, politicians, and aspiring politicians in this town who should exercise greater cognizance that their being rude to a stranger can have a lasting potential of coming back and biting them on the place where they sit down. They won’t get my business and they won’t get my vote.

I have to agree with Spouse. The length of time you have spent in this community is not an indicator of your passion, caring, or ability to help this community. “Short term” residents chose to relocate to THIS community, out of many other amazing communities they could possibly live and work in. I too believe its time to put this I’ve-been-here-longer-than-you attitude to rest. It benefits nobody and in fact damages this community from being open to new passionate residents.

    ABroaderView:

I would add that this attitude sometimes appears as an attempt to stymie passionate ideas by individuals who have been exposed to experiences and proficiencies from outside of the South Shore. Just because “we’ve always done it that way” doesn’t mean that new ideas should automatically be rejected and considered stupid. I’ve lived in SLT almost 15-years now but I’ve been treated so rudely by some “long-time local business owners” that I won’t patronize them, and so rudely by some “long-time locals” that it makes me wonder how they treat visitors to our community. After I’d lived here and paid taxes here for about 5-years I was actually told by a long-time local woman that “You aren’t a local. You can’t be a local until you’ve lived here for at least 10-years”. How rude was that? It is because of circumstances such as these that I believe we need some new people on the City Council who possess A Broader View. (Pun intended.)

It is unfortunate that some people find any kind of change threatening and intimidating.
